Do you have or know a high school student that would like or could use some extra help preparing for college! The Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College is offering their new Pathway program starting Tuesday, August 24, 2021 from 3:30 – 5:00 pm. There will be two 40 minute sessions with a 10 minute break in between. The flyer, schedule, and application are attached. Registration is currently open and closes at 5 pm on August 6, 2021. Requirements: Underrepresented, first-generation, or low-income, a Junior or Senior, (2021-22 school year), and participant must attend and participate in all sessions. It is being offered in-person and virtually. Seniors that finish the program and register for at least 3 credits for the next semester at SCTC will receive a $300.00 incentive. The program is designed to help students prepare for college. They will have the opportunity to enhance their academic skills, gain career information, and learn some Anishinaabemowin (Native American language) and traditions.

Good afternoon, Attached is a great opportunity for future or current Central Michigan University students. See the link below for more details. The Native American Scholastic Award is a merit-based award given to a Native American student who has been admitted to Central Michigan University for the first time or is already attending the university. The American Indian Scholastic Award is given to first-time or continuing CMU students committed to the promotion of Native American culture. The award value will range from $500 to $1500 (based on funds availability). The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe provides funding for the Scholastic Award. Award winners will be announced at the annual CMU Pow wow on Sunday afternoon. The Destination Dental School Program is a free oppurutnity that would prepare college students for careers in medicine, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, and dentistry. Destination Dental School (DDS) is an intense gateway experience for underrepresented minority students interested in a career in dentistry. The goal of the program is to encourage and increase the number of talented underrepresented students who pursue a career in dentistry. In order to prepare for the unanticipated extension of the remote learning schedule, school is cancelled on Monday, January 18, 2021. Lunches will not be delivered but can be picked up at SCA between 11:00am-1:00pm. Work packets will be delivered after 2:00 pm.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we transition into this new way of learning. As always, the health and safety of our students, staff and community are always our top priority. In order to keep everyone who chooses face to face learning (part of the Hybrid option) safe, we will have a cap on the number of students per class. Each classroom will not exceed 10 students per group. As of right now, there is room for students who may choose to switch from At Home Learning to our Hybrid option. As a reminder, students who choose the Hybrid option will learn in school 2 days a week (either Monday/Tuesday for Group A, or Thursday/Friday for Group B) and will learn from home the other 3 days a week. If you are interested in changing your students learning option, there is a form you will need to complete and return to SCA. Once we receive your request form, and a spot is available, we will contact you to inform you of which group your child will be in.
