ABOUT K-12 SERVICES

K-12 Services provide the community with successful programs. The foundation of the K-12 services is the parent/student advocate program. We employ 5 full-time advocates, 6 full-time tutors, and a part-time Administrative Assistant.

The advocates wear many hats but are primarily placed in the schools as a liaison whom fosters communication between the parent/guardian and the school. They are also responsible for tracking and recording grades and attendance for all eligible students and keeping the parent/guardian updated in this area. Advocates also serve as academic counselors, youth group advisors, and mentors. To increase communication with/between our families and our department, we have developed newsletters, which each advocate sends out each month to inform parents/guardians about what opportunities are available to their student. These newsletters contain everything from Honor roll lists, to monthly birthdays, school events, tribal events, calendars, and inspirational quotes.

The tribal tutoring program provides every eligible student with the oppurtunity to recieve assistance in any academic need. based on the native mpopulation and academic priority as assessed by the parent, teacher advocate, and Tutor. the tutor will will schedule times to work with the student at their individual schools. this enables the tutor to have easy access to the teacher and any reoucres the student may require. Tutors are also responsible for for operating our homework lab. Available every Monday-Thursday on school days, the homework lab provides every eigible student with a time and place to complete any work they were unable to complete in class. Students have access to computers with internet service, supplies, the tribal education staff, as well as an afternoon snack to get them through.
